Top of the World is the third track from Bridgit Mendler's debut album, Hello My Name Is....
It was written by Mendler and Emanuel Kiriakou, Jai Marlon, Laura Raia, David Ryan, Freddy Wexler and produced by Andrew Goldstein and Emanuel Kiriakou
The song was released exclusively as a promotional single on October 12, 2012 on Radio Disney. On August 4, 2013 the song was confirmed as the third official single by some radio stations.
Music video[]
The music video was filmed in Griffith Park, Los Angeles and directed by Matt Wyatt. It was premiered on Bridgit's VEVO channel on November 16, 2013. The video was recorded on its own, independent of Hollywood Records. The song in the video is an acoustic version.
Live performances[]
The song was performed on all dates of her tours, Bridgit Mendler: Live in Concert and Summer Tour. The song was featured in the twelfth season of American Idol during the episode "Charlotte Auditions". On July 23, 2013 Mendler performed the song on its official VEVO channel for 'The Hurricane Sessions'.
Critical reception[]
The song has received generally positive reviews from music critics. The Maximum Pop Magazine said "Top of the World" is charming and catchy, the composition is solid and sweet and Mendler showed versatility. Kai from Embrace Magazine You commented that the introduction of the song is appealing and sounds like "a dramatic melody straight from a classic black and white film with legends instead of voices". He also said that the transition to a more poppy and dance beat was a good surprise. But for Kai, Mendler's high shots during the chorus make this part of the song annoying and painful. She concluded that the song was "satisfactory". Plugged In said he was falling in love with the song and remarked positively on Mendler's vocal power. Guilherme Tintel to Pop was positive and said that the song mixed soul and R & B and was combined with the composition.
